Israel has depicted its rule over the West Bank, Gaza and the Golan Heights as temporary and defensive.

In the past decade, a “Greater Israel” agenda has moved into policy, with US recognition of the annexation of East Jerusalem and the Golan Heights, and government adoption of West Bank annexation.
