A controversial new law passed in Israel is drawing sharp international criticism, with rights groups warning it could deepen apartheid and fast-track executions of Palestinian detainees.

The law introduces the death penalty by hanging for certain acts defined as “terrorism,” raising concerns about how it will be applied in a system critics say already treats Palestinians and Israelis differently.
