Researchers in the United States have developed what they’re calling “metamachines” – modular robots that can keep functioning even after being damaged.

Designed with the help of artificial intelligence and inspired by nature, these machines can adapt their structure and behaviour when parts fail, potentially transforming how robots operate in disaster zones, deep space and other hostile environments.
